
SHAO Jiade is currently an associate professor at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Nanjing University. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Nanjing University, and Ph.D. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, specializing in Buddhism and theories of religion. He is currently working on traditional Chinese culture, Chinese philosophy in Ming and Qing dynasties, and the history of Chinese Buddhism.
His major research projects include: "A Study on the Reformation of Modern Buddhism in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces"(National Social Science Foundation of China), "A Study on Buddhism in Nanjing during the Period of Occupation (1937-1945)" (China Postdoctoral Science Foundation) and a sub-project of "The excavation, collation, and study of the multilingual Buddhist literature in Republican China”( Major Program of National Social Science Foundation of China) and so on.
He is the author of two monographs: "The Reform of Modern Buddhism in Local Communities of China: A Case Study in Nanjing (1912-1949)" (Taipei: Dharma Drum Mountain Books,2017) and "Master Taixu in the History of Images and Ideas"(Beijing: China Religious Culture Publisher, 2019), and the editor of two textbooks on Chinese traditional culture. He has published more than 30 academic papers in refereed journals. His research achievements have won the prize of the 16th Outstanding Achievement Award of Philosophy and Social Science of Jiangsu Province.
The courses he taught were selected as National First-class Undergraduate Courses and National High-quality Online Courses. He have won the first prize of the 6th Teaching Contest for University Young Teachers in China, and the first prize of the 4th Teaching Contest for University Young Teachers in Jiangsu Province.
