Professor Zhang Jianjun is head of the Logic Group of the Philosophy Department. He is the founding director of the Institute of Modern Logic and Application at Nanjing University. He has been Vice President of the Chinese Association of Logic (2004-present), Chairman of the National Committee of Logic of Science（2000-2014), and also Chairman of the National Committee of Dialectical Logic of China (2014 - present).

His research interests are in the areas of modern logic, philosophy of logic, logic of science, dialectic logic and epistemology, especially in relation to the study of logical paradoxes. His recent research interests are in “logic and action theory” and “situation theory”. He is now working on establishing “methodology of logical actionism. ” In addition, he is an advocator to study about the social and cultural function of logic in China.

His representative works are Paradoxes: Conundrums in Science (1990, 1994), Essays on Contradictions and Paradoxes(1992), Recent Essays on Contradictions and Paradoxes (1998), An Introduction to the Study of Logical Paradoxes (2002, 2014), Social Functions of Logic(2010), Between Logic and Philosophy (2013). His more recent work A Study of Frontier Issues in Contemporary Philosophy of Logic (2014) was selected into “National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences” and won him the sole First Prize of “Jin Yuelin Academic Award” (2015).

He welcomes master and doctoral students and postdoctoral research associates in the above-mentioned areas. He has been an advisor of 45 doctoral students, 30 graduate students and 9 postdoctoral researchers..
