
Yang Ming, professor of Chinese ethics, studied at the Department of Philosophy, Nanjing University since 1986 and got Bachelor Degree (1990), Master Degree (1993) and Ph.D (1998). After graduation, he has been doing research in Ethics since then. In 2003, he was promoted to professor and advisor of Ph. D students the next year.
Prof. Yang was selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Scholars in Chinese Ethics (2012) and a high-level talent of Promoting Cultural System in Jiangsu Province. Prof. Yang is a director of International Confucian Association, Academic Committee of China Confucius foundation, China Association for Ethical Studies, the Executive President of Jiangsu Association for Ethical Studies and a Vice President of Jiangsu Administration Association, Jiangsu Confucian Association. In administrative management, Pro.Yang successively served as a head of Political Research Department, party secretary of Department of Philosophy and School Affairs Committee in NJU. Now, he serves as Vice-President of Party School of C.P.C Jiangsu Committee.
In the past 30 years, Prof. Yang’s research fields include Chinese traditional ethics, the basic theory of ethics, theories of civic morality and their practice, He has accomplished more than ten key national and provincial projects in his research areas. These researches have wide influence, even beyond academics.
In studies, Prof. Yang insists that development of contemporary Chinese ethics and morality should have a ‘root’, and we need to take Chinese traditional ethics seriously and focus on practical development of the Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, in order to accomplish the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture.
Prof. Yang has been awarded with many honors for his researches, such as Excellent Prize of Party School of the Central Committee of C.P.C, the Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy of Jiangsu Province, Outstanding Research Achievements Award of Jiangsu Institutions of Higher Learning in Philosophy and Social Sciences, and so on.
