Under the support ofNanjing University,SME work closely withthe University of Waterloo (UW)in establishingthe China-Canada Financial Engineering and Risk Management Research Center in 2010. The center aims to further the joint research, academic communicationinfinancialengineering andriskmanagement and student exchange with the University of Waterloo.Nanjing University’s professor Li Xindan andaUWprofessorserved asdirectors.
The center hasreceived the supportby Nanjing University.Sponsored by NSFC,the centerworkedwith SME andWatrisqof UW in co-hostingthe International Seminar of Big Data and Quantitative Behavioral Financeat Nanjing University in April 2012 and at UW in April 2014, respectively.
Chinese and Canadian professors chairedthe seminars.
One important mission of the center is the joint master’sprogram in financialengineeringwhich confers on its graduates double masters, that is, master’s in financial engineering from Nanjing University and master’s in quantitativefinancefromthefaculty ofmathematics of UW.
Studentson thisprogram will study in NJU for the first and the third yearsand will spend the second yearatUW. So far, ten SME students have completed their studyatUW, and three students arecurrently studying there.
Over the past five years, Professor LiXindan,of NJU,visited UW several times, and the UW professors like Kenseng Tan visitedNanjing many times. In September 2013, Liu Haifei,anSMEassociate professor, went on a one-year studyatUW,and thispromotedthe further development of the center.
