On December 20th, the Conference on the 40th Anniversary of Kuang Yaming Honors School of Nanjing University and the High-Quality Development of Independent Cultivation of Top Innovative Talents was held in the Guosheng Hall of Kuang Yaming College, Pan Qi Building, Xianlin Campus. Alumni from home and abroad, representatives from sister institutions, academic peers, and representatives of teachers and students gathered together to jointly review the inspiring journey of cultivating top innovative talents at Kuang Yaming Honors School over the past forty years, and to look forward to a new chapter of high-quality independent talent cultivation. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the conference and delivered a speech. Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the CAS, delivered a video address. Wang Chengbin, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of Jiangsu Federation of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and Yang Shubing, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Education Department, attended the conference.
Tan Tieniu extended warm congratulations and sincere greetings to all faculty, staff, and alumni of Kuang Yaming Honors School at home and abroad. He also expressed heartfelt thanks and high respect to leaders at all levels and friends from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported the cause of NJU, especially the development of Kuang Yaming Honors School. He pointed out that from the establishment of the Nanjing University Junior Class in 1985, to the pioneering "Big Science Model" leading the wave of national higher education reform, and then to the deep cultivation of a high ground for top innovative talent cultivation, over the past forty years, Kuang Yaming Honors School has written a splendid chapter for NJU in building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and independently cultivating top innovative talents, delivering batches of outstanding graduates with distinct qualities, broad thinking, and outstanding abilities to the nation. Tan Tieniu put forward hopes for the future development of the School and emphasized that the university will, as always, support the construction and development of Kuang Yaming Honors School, and wished for the School to flourish and compose new chapters.
Tan Zhemin pointed out that in the historical process of promoting the construction of a strong nation in education, Kuang Yaming Honors School, has taken moral education as the foundation, focused on cultivating students' interests, devoted itself to research-oriented teaching, and cultivated a large number of outstanding talents for the country. It has made active explorations and accumulated valuable experience for Nanjing University's goal of "providing the best undergraduate education in China." Looking ahead, he hopes that Kuang Yaming Honors School will closely align with the country's urgent needs for talent cultivation and the latest developments at the scientific frontier, focus on cultivating extraordinary top innovative talents, continue to take the lead in reforming and innovating the education and teaching system and exploring interdisciplinary talent cultivation models, continue to make efforts in gathering high-quality teaching resources and creating quality courses, make new contributions to consolidating NJU's traditional advantages in talent cultivation, and provide new NJU solutions for the independent cultivation of top innovative talents in China.
On behalf of Jiangus Education Department, Yang Shubing extended warm congratulations on the remarkable achievements of Kuang Yaming Honors School over the past forty years. He stated that the School has always taken the national strategy as its guide and student growth as its center, deeply cultivating the "experimental field" of honors education, and has forged a talent cultivation path that combines NJU's heritage, Jiangsu's style, and Chinese characteristics. He emphasized that Kuang Yaming Honors School bears a glorious mission and great responsibility, and put forward expectations for the School's development, and stated that the EducatinoDepartment will, as always, fully support the reform and development of NJU and Kuang Yaming Honors School, and jointly create an influential, replicable, and promotable "Jiangsu Model" of honors education nationwide.
To implement the requirements of NJU‘s "Forging Ahead Initiative" and continuously explore educational and teaching reform, Kuang Yaming Honors School officially established the "Faculty-Student Growth Honorary Community" composed of alumni representatives and current faculty and students. Tan Tieniu, Wang Chengbin, Yang Shubing, as well as alumni committee members and student committee members such as Jiang Hua (Class of 1985, Deputy Minister of Jiangsu Provincial Organization Department), Yin Hengbin (Class of 1989, Mayor of Anshun City, Guizhou Province), Yang Dawei (Class of 1999, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Bank of Jiangsu), and Luo Jiaheng (Class of 2024 undergraduate), jointly pressed the handprint symbolizing "jointly nurturing the future and passing the torch," marking the official launch of a new pattern of collaborative talent cultivation at the School.
In the honors and awards session, Tan Tieniu presented the "Outstanding Contribution Award" to Professor Lu Dexin, former Director of the Basic Discipline Teaching Enhancement Department of NJU, former Dean of the School of Basic Discipline Education of NJU, and Teaching Director of Kuang Yaming Honors School. Guests and leaders presented the "Outstanding Achievement Award," "Special Contribution Award," "Pioneering Endeavor Award," and "Peach and Plum Talent Cultivation Award" to individual and collective recipients from the School.
Li Zhe, Party Secretary of Yuanpei College of Peking University, Mei Ciqi, Dean of Xinya College of Tsinghua University, Pan Mingji, Associate Dean and Director of General Education of Wu Yee Sun College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and other representatives of sister honors colleges spoke in succession, highly praising Kuang Yaming Honors School's achievements in talent cultivation and reform experience, and jointly discussing the mission and future of high-quality development in the independent cultivation of top innovative talents.

At the conference, guests also watched the 40th anniversary promotional video of Kuang Yaming Honors School, Nanjing University, "Forty Years of Brilliance, Upholding Truth and Seeking Innovation," looking back on the resolute steps of the School's forty years of hard work and counting the fruitful achievements of talent cultivation.
Zhou Yuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Kuang Yaming Honors School, presided over the conference and read congratulatory letters and messages from all sectors of society. Wang Jun, Dean of the Undergraduate School of Nanjing University and Dean of Kuang Yaming Honors School, read the "Fortieth Anniversary Development Report of Kuang Yaming College, Nanjing University" on site.
During the anniversary, Kuang Yaming Honors School also held academician lectures, deans' forums, alumni forums, and other activities, conducting a series of special reports on topics such as "Exploration and Practice of Honors Education in the AI Era," "Interdisciplinary Integration and Scientific Revolution," and "Cross-Border Integration and Industrial Synergy."
