On November 28, the Fifth Faculty and Staff Sports Day of Nanjing University was held on Xianlin Campus. Over 1,000 faculty and staff members from 36 sub-unions gathered at the venue to compete in skills and showcase their talents. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Counciland Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the event.
At 8:30 in the morning, facing the rising sun, the five-star red flag was slowly hoisted. Tan Tieniu announced the official commencement of the Fifth Faculty and Staff Sports Games.


The Fifth Sports Day featured 12 individual games, 5 group games, and 2 team games. The Ninth Set of Broadcast Gymnastics Competition was the first to take the stage. The participating teams lined up neatly, held their heads high, and performed movements that were standard, regulated, and vigorous. At the tug-of-war competition site, contestants gripped the hemp rope tightly, ready to start. Tan Tieniu gave the signal for the tug-of-war competition to begin. Contestants united in thought and strength, the red rope in the middle of the hemp rope was pulled back and forth, and the cheers from the cheering squad were deafening, pushing the atmosphere of the venue to its climax.




Tan Tieniu observed the competitions on site and presented awards to the sub-unions that won the top three places in the tug-of-war and broadcast gymnastics competitions.


Tan Tieniu also visited and extended greetings to the participating athletes and staff, communicated with athletes about their competition experiences, and encouraged everyone to compete with style, strengthen their bodies, temper their will, and devote themselves to the journey of striving forward with a spirit that is faster, higher, stronger, and more united.


At the opening ceremony, NJU Vice President Lu Xiancai, delivered a speech. Sun Leqiang, Director of NJU Organization Department, as well as heads of relevant departments and colleges, attended the event. The opening ceremony was hosted by Tang Shaoqiu, Chairperson of NJU Labor Union. Professor Liang Bin from the School of Physics and teacher Zhao Lan from the Sports Department took the oath as athlete representative and referee representative, respectively.




After a whole day of fierce competition, the Administration Sub-union won first place in the overall team score. The Sub-union of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the Logistics Service Group Sub-union won second and third place, respectively. The Administration, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences won the top three places in the tug-of-war competition. The Logistics Service Group, Administration, and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences won the top three places in the broadcast gymnastics competition.








NJU has a fine tradition of advocating all-round development in sports, and this fine tradition has shone with new brilliance in the new era. The university attaches great importance to the physical and mental health of faculty and staff. In recent years, NJU Labor Union has made effective explorations in serving faculty and staff and gathering strength for development. The various sub-unions' rich and colorful mass sports activities have also flourished, uniting people and forging character, injecting continuous vitality into the construction of the "Unique Nanjing University."
